For the Love of Anthropologie

For the love of Anthropologie...

Recently I received a request from a dear sister of the lucky bride-to-be for a bridal shower cake that is inspired by Anthropologie. I, myself, being a fan of the store was quite intrigued. However, I thought long & hard on how I was going to incorporate the feel and romance the second you enter ANY Anthropologie store into an edible cake. I was perplexed...

So immediately, I asked the usual questions: Is there a theme to the shower? Is there a color scheme? Thinking some of those answers will help me create a design. Usually, these designs will immediately pop into my head and I'll know exactly what I would make for the client. This time however... Things were a little different to say the least.

The theme is anthropologie, a simple yet romanic & whimiscal approach. The color was purple and orange. The shower was a intimate and small setting.

I was motivated and started my research for the perfect inspiration piece. I found
this:

The shower host also wanted to incoporate a damask like design. So we decided on a small, simple, yet whimiscal cake with purple fondant, white stenciling, and orange accents.

This was the result:

Even the inside of this purple/orange cake was a nice golden color: A Mango+Passionfruit cake + buttercream goes right with the theme of the shower.

I wanted the stencil to have a romantic look with no sharp edges. So I waited for the sugar stencilig to dry then dusted the design all around with silver petal dusts. The butterlies were floating in mid-air and hovering over the cake like two lovers in spring time. It was truly a romantic result.

Everything at this shower, from the sign-in table...
To the settings...

Little romance in the details around the room...

To a dedicated anthro-inspired wine bar...
To finally, these wonderful little wine tags...
It was no wonder why we had a glowing and beautiful bride-to-be living this Anthropologie inspired pre-wedding glee!

Ube, Taro, & Everything Purple

One of my all time favorite is the varieties of purple yams, taro, dasheen, etc. All can usually be found in an asian grocery store. These are sweet, usually purple, roots that have a nice creamy and light flavor. They range in all sizes, different starchy consistency, and finally different shades of purple. I just wanted to make a simple, not so pamcakedesign looking, bundt cake incoporating these natural flavors & vibrant colors.
A luscious cake batter indulged in the rich texture of the yam with a light creamy taro whipped-cream filling, and a sweet white chocolate ube coat. And perhaps the perfect TWIST to a thanksgiving traditional desserts - still with the warm cuddly feeling of eating some yam-inspired delightful sweetness. yummmm

Very Berry d'Vine

Very Berry d'Vine~

The inspiration...

A loving tita (tagalog or filipino word for auntie) wanted to give the bride & groom a beautiful cake to match their wedding theme. The color pallet for this cake and elegant wedding was to be deep luscious purple with a light romantic beige. From a piece of paper that she gave me as inspiration to my sketch or design for this cake.

My sketch...

Left: My essential tools as I get set up.
Right: Making the fondant leaves...one by one...with powdered sugar all around. Powdered sugar is considered as the 'flour' for cake decorating.

Left: The top layer of chocolate cake covered in milk chocolate buttercream
Right: The bottom layer after it was covered with the beige fondant. Nice & smooth :)

The cake after it is constructed with the base, top layer, bottom layer, berries, deep purple ribbon, and leaves. The whimsical design was hand piped with lavender decorating gel.

And now for the finishing touches with fresh purple calla lilies & a bright purple sheer ribbon.

A closer look at the detailed embellishments...

The End...for a Very Berry d'Vine Cake
