So I started thinking I would make an airplane on an airport runway cake but realized as the weekend progressed that I didn't have enough time, so I thought some FAA pride would be great and fitting for this work picnic.
I was afraid of the raspberry mousse in a edible chocolate petal-like cup. It looked and tasted like something I would have ordered from a high-end french restaurant. But I was very happy to take home the 1st place prize, a cute little blue ribbon, and the best of all...a cash prize :)
The judging criteria consisted of: Taste, Presentation, Creativity, and Texture. Luckily, I went with two layers of butter cake in between I filled it with a sweet layer of strawberry jam, fresh sliced strawberries, and whipped strawberry creamcheese buttercream filling. I called it my Strawberry Cream Dream Cake. It was a big hit! Since all four of the criteria weighed equally, the raspberry mousse chocolate petal cups came in second place. It was a fun and rewarding day. Standby, I may try for the airplane + runway next year!
